Testing Netvibes as a Hub for D_A

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

I’ve been testing out Netvibes as a hub for all the social services and net stuff for Digital_Alpaca. If you want to check it out, It’s located at http://www.netvibes.com/digital_alpaca

I believe that this could be a good way to present all the different sites and services D_A is using, in the same place. Isn’t that what’s it all about, to be found from the wide web? What’s the use of using great web services in the first place if no one knows about you being there?

One thing I was wondering though is, that if you happen to have other good examples of using Netvibes for this, would be nice to see some of them. All I know is that at least in some point Fruugo had this kind of a page, but I don’t have other experiences about this. Would be great to see if other companies have also done something like this.

Interesting Innovation Conglomerate Building at Tampere

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Yesterday I had a nice conversation with Petri Räsänen at Protomo. Like it reads at their site, Protomo is to offer an agile process, facilities and a community to support multi-disciplinary product and service development and bringing them to market.

After the conversation I began to think how interesting combination of innovation is actually building in Tampere.

In the same premises is also located Demola, an open innovation environment for students and companies to get together and create something new and interesting.

Now there’s also a third environment building up to the same building, called the Hub. As it reads in Hub Tampere blog, The Hub is an initiative to build a network of places around the world where entrepreneurs, innovators and change makers can meet and work together to tackle the world’s most pressing social, cultural and environmental challenges.

This all seems very interesting and innovative for the future and Digital_Alpaca is also contemplating how to be a part in all of this. There are many things in the values and visions of these concepts that resonate very well with D_A’s own and it is going to be very interesting to see how these affect the entrepreneurial culture in Finland and are these ripples for some greater change.

Event: ArcticEvening Tampere taking place November 17th

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

ArcticStartup will be travelling to Tampere to tap into the entrepreneurial buzz there we’ve heard so much of. The evening will be an interesting one wrapped around the theme of Networking and Pitching. More specifically, we’ll be discussing the different ways entrepreneurs can take advantage networking to grow their business. We’ll have some very practical advice from industry heavy weights and local entrepreneurs.

More about it here: http://www.arcticstartup.com/2009/11/09/arcticevening-tampere-taking-place-november-17th/

Digital_Alpaca is also attending. See you there!

Digital_Alpaca

I’m so happy to be able to write this message here. The site has been done on schedule and less in a month the company was established.

This hasn’t been pure luck, but has come after weeks of intense iteration and work for the Digital_Alpaca company itself. For example there are some visual things that have been originally done for some other media than for this site but have etched into the big picture so well that have become permanent parts of the D_A imagery.

The biggest thanks for this site coming up so fast goes of course to Antti Syrjä from Syrjä Interactive for stitching and coding this whole thing up from my Visual Designer’s way of doing UI Design! :)

Antti is a capable and funny guy [check out his Stand Up Fan Page at Facebook] to work with and a strong branch in the Alpaca ecosystem. Hope to continue having many great projects in the future. If you’re interested in what things he’s done or provides, see his company site at http://syrja.as.

So, whats’ going to be the topics around here you may ask? Useless babble, sort sighted self-elevation? Hopefully not. There are times when company blogs have been turned into loud self-praise channels boring everyone up. Would you believe if I said this isn’t going to be one of those? Well, that’s what I’m saying.

I hope this is going to be a place to spread and share things related to Alpaca’s interests, which isn’t only creating profit, but to be a source of positivity and true collaboration, and a spearhead for New Media and other related subjects to be taken seriously [and funny too] and in to meaningful use.

I believe that words meaningful and fun can be combined and that’s what Digital_Alpaca is all about in the Creative Digital Design field. If you want to know more about the company’s vision, read about it at The Heart of Digital_Alpaca section.

So, if you’re interested what this company could do for you, check out the other areas of the website to get to know Alpaca better, or contact us. If you just want to stay tuned on what’s happening to Alpaca in the future, subscribe to the blog’s RSS Feed or hit the ‘Become a Fan’ button at D_A’s Facebook Page.

And remember, if you got a Digital Media Problem [DMP™] in your hands, an Alpaca or two just might help. |=_0|

P.s. And all you Finnish readers out there; if having just an English blog offends you in any way, Alpaca apologizes. Writing good and meaningful blog takes time and doing two of them takes even more time.

So when having English speaking customers, friends and partners, it was clear from the beginning that this would be in English. But almost everyone knows it in Finland, so no harm done, right? ;-)
