This is a question I hear a lot and often ask it myself too, and so does Chris Brogan in his post The Writing Practice. So, what on earth to write?
1. List or mindmap your interests
This is an easy way to start. Try tossing around ideas on paper or in some application on your computer or web, doesn’t really matter where. Choose what comes naturally to you. You can even develop the same idea in different formats and gather it up later at your blogging site.
2. Sharpen Your Topics
If you want to write a blog with good content and not just a personal diary of your daily experiences, think of what you are writing about. If you are interested in riding, horror movies and accounting, maybe it’s not that good idea to write about them in the same blog if you want to have a broader audience and not just keep an online diary, which is OK too if that’s what you are looking for.
3. See what others with same interests are writing about [but do not create an echo chamber]
It really helps if you constantly read other people’s blogs, newspapers, magazines etc. with topics that interest you. Many times this may trigger new ideas and thoughts and get you writing.
But please, try to write with your own voice and ideas, do not just copy other people’s thoughts.
4. Read about how to blog from other blogs
Posts like How to Be a More Relational Blogger [Tips for New and Established Bloggers] may sometimes come in handy.
And there are plenty of posts telling you how to/and what to blog around the web. Just like this one you are currently reading. |=_0|
